Pre-DC

Working in a team is a daily part of life in almost any medical setting.

For these reasons, we believe that team training and interpersonal feedback are integral components to the DC exercises.

Research indicates that the best way to learn interpersonal skills is through constructive input provided by the people you work with.

In these exercises, you will receive a feedback/feedforward assessment from your client and your facilitator, as well as your peers. This is the equivalent of what is called “360° Feedback” in the business realm. The purpose of this method is to help you understand how others perceive your strengths and weaknesses. This process can help you learn where you excel and identify what you need to improve.

All of us have the capacity to improve our skills by learning more about how we impact others and work in a team.

Pre-DC is broken into 2 different programs:

  • Pre-DC1 (October)
focuses on your impact and individual strengths to create strong clinical teams in context of your DC cases.
  • Pre-DC2 (November)
focuses on your team’s impact on client communication and interaction.

During DC 1 and 2, clinic teams work together to meet with a client, decide on a diagnostic path, work through a case, and recommend treatment, all in the course of three days. Although exciting, the uniqueness of the experience can be stressful. In many ways, the DC’s offer the first real glimpse of what it’s like to work with colleagues in the midst of practicing medicine. Individual self-management and personal awareness are integral to the success of the exercises.
