W. Duane Mickelsen, MS, DVM, Diplomat of the American College of Theriogenology passed away nearing the age of 90 years old. Dr. Mickelsen was on staff as a full professor for many years at the WSU-CVM teaching reproductive medicine to generations of Veterinarians. Dr. Mickelsen researched various reproductive diseases and embryo transfer in large and small animals.
Dr. Mickelsen was also involved in showing Pingauer cattle and was very active in Christian prison ministries in Cottonwood, ID.
Dr. Mickelsen was from Coulee City, WA. He was very active in sports and was very fond of his livestock who he regarded as some of his best friends. After high school he was in the Navy for 4 years and then went back home to be a wheat farmer. Fortunately for the animals he was allergic to wheat and as a result went to college at night while working on the farm all day so that he could enter the WSU- CVM. He received his DVM from there in 1970.
He leaves behind his wife Gayle, four children, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. As a grandfather he was unsurpassed.
