Janai Johnson
Hi, I’m Janai!
I’m a DVM student from Washington and completed my undergraduate studies here at WSU. I started the DVM program on the Pullman campus as a member of the class of 2029. This is my first year as an ambassador.
I’d love to talk to you about balancing life inside and outside of the classroom along with club involvement!
Areas of interest
- Large animal general practice
- Mixed animal medicine
Club involvement
- Small Ruminant Club (President-Elect)
- Christian Veterinary Fellowship (Vice-President)
- Agricultural Animal Club
Extracurricular activities
- Orientation mentor
- Dairy practitioner summer shadowing
- TRIO program student panelist
- Destination Heartland attendee
My favorite part of the program is getting to learn alongside my peers. Even though I am only one year into the program, it’s been a joy to both struggle and succeed with my cohort. I am really looking forward to getting to work with them in the future in events like the Diagnostic Challenge and as we move toward our clinical year.
Just relax. You can enjoy things in your personal life and still be a good student. Even though you’ll likely feel the pressure to constantly be studying, I would suggest learning how to prioritize the things you care about now so that as you continue in the veterinary program – and even after – you will already be in the habit of pursuing your non vet med related passions. Also, find ways to enjoy the education you’re getting! This might look like getting yourself little rewards for reaching studying goals or finding fun ways to learn content with friends.
So diverse! There are clubs for most areas of interest ranging from One Health, Integrative Medicine, to Feline only and Small Ruminant Club. I am almost certain that there will be a club for you here at WSU! But in the case that there are no clubs representing your area of interest, this can be an opportunity for you to get it started!
