Stanton M. Child, 84, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, in Cambria with family members and close friends nearby. He was born in Grinnell, Iowa, before moving to California where he graduated from North Hollywood High School. Stanton “Bud” later graduated from Washington State University with a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stanton enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 9, 1942. He completed B-17 and B-29 pilot training and was assigned to the 505th Bomb Group of the 313th Bomb Wing. Stanton was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and flew 22 missions over the Japanese empire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On October 25, 1944, Stanton married Dorothy Jean Peters in the Episcopal Church in Hastings, Neb. Together they raised two children. He lost his beloved Jean in 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stanton had a successful veterinary practice in the San Fernando Valley from 1951 to 1979. When he moved to Cambria in 1979, he was Cambria’s first full-time veterinarian until he retired in 1998.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stanton is survived by two children Bonnie (Gary) Child Brockman and Patrick (Sally) Child; four grandchildren Kristin (Tim) Fredricks, Ashley Brockman, Derek Child and Clinton Child. He will be remembered with love by Sundrina Griffits, who was a very special person and traveling companion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A graveside service for close family will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, and a celebration of life will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. later that day at the American Legion Hall in Cambria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion Club 432, 1000 Main St. Cambria, CA 93428.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
