September 6, 1920 – August 1, 2016<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. James L. Frederickson passed away in Bakersfield, CA on August 1, 2016. Jim was born in Puyallup, WA on September 6, 1920 and grew up there before attending Pacific Lutheran University. In 1944 Jim received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University. Jim married Ruth V. Opstad in 1943 and their family grew with the birth of daughters, Signe and Kristina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Early in his career, Jim practiced veterinary medicine in Manteca, CA, Richland, WA, and Mountain Home, ID. After Jim received his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1955, Ruth and Jim relocated their family to Bakersfield, CA where he joined Stiern Veterinary Hospital. As a partner, he helped grow the company by adding Southwest Veterinary Hospital. Jim was a beautiful alpine skier, and enjoyed fishing in his leisure time. Jim was involved in our community and served on the City of Bakersfield Planning Commission from 1963 to 1979 (Chairman 1965-1966), the East Bakersfield Rotary Club for over 20 years, and the Masonic Lodge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and his oldest daughter, Signe and is survived by his sister, Alice Repp and daughter Kristina Zimmerman, grandsons Stuart and Jeffrey Thompson, and Michael, James, and John Zimmerman. Jim had 15 great grandchildren, and the best neighbors, friends, and family a person could want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The family would like to thank Dr. Emmanuel Strategos, and the great staff at Brookdale Riverwalk, and Hoffman Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There will be a private burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Jim’s life, Sunday September 4th, from 3 – 5 p.m. at Stockdale Country Club (7001 Stockdale Highway) Bakersfield, CA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
