Marilyn was born in 1926 in Yakima and was raised in he Wenas Valley and on a fruit ranch in Selah. She grew up reading books and riding horses. She was always an animal lover. Marilyn attended Selah High School where she was the valedictorian of her 1944 high school class.
She graduated from Washington State University at Pullman with a degree in veterinary medicine in 1949, to “join the ranks of 257 women veterinarians in the United States.” Her first veterinary practice was in Coulee City, WA. In 1956, she and her family moved to Fresno, CA., where she worked for Dr. Jay Hoop at the Fresno Veterinary Hospital. In 1962, she took over Redwood Dog & Cat Hospital. Adobe Animal Hospital’s design had her input and she opened and operated the practice until her first retirement. In 1980 she moved to the Gualala Veterinary Clinic in Gualala, CA., where she also raised sheep.
With her first husband, Daniel V. Iyall, she had three children, Richard, Sandra, and Debora. In 1960 she gave birth to Diane Marilyn Lewis.
