June 4, 1934 – June 7, 2025
Dr. June Konz was born June Marie Kuzma on June 4, 1934 in Fisher’s Island, New York. Her dad’s Army service involved many moves throughout her life. She was the oldest of five siblings and she was a big part of raising her two brothers and two sisters.
The family relocated to Pacific Beach, California before again transferring to Japan for a year. Back to California and again moving on to Hawaii where her dad was stationed for two years. Returning to California the family settled into a home in San Diego, where June graduated from Point Loma High School.
With her strong love of animals and high intellect, June enrolled in Cal State to start her education in Veterinary Medicine. The family again was transferred to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she joined them and enrolled at University of Alaska, living with her family for a year until they returned to California. June stayed in Alaska and continued her education, staying on a farm where she could also care for many farm animals. June graduated from University of Alaska with a Pre-Vet degree.
June was accepted at both University of California and Washington State College for the Veterinary Program and chose WSC to complete her degree. It was here she met the love of her life, Stephen Konz. They were married in Sept. 1958 and both graduated from WSC the following spring. Looking for a place to call home, they found Republic, Washington in the spring of 1961.
June spent many years caring for the animals of Ferry County, accepting barter when her patients’ families couldn’t afford to pay for her services. She raised a family on the ranch while continuing to operate her clinic and helping many people and animals.
She was known as a woman who showed care and compassion for countless critters as well as the people of Ferry County. The world is a better place because June cared to share her education and knowledge.
June was preceded in death by her husband Stephen Konz with whom she enjoyed 59 years of marriage, son Gary, daughter Kristy and granddaughter Alexis McKay. She is survived by her children Dave Konz, Kathy (McKay) Konz, Karen Konz and Wayne Konz; and three grandchildren: Stephen McKay and Kristy and Cody Hoffman.
