October 27, 1938 – March 11, 2024
Dr. Jerold Brent Fullerton, Sr., age 85, a native son of Roseburg passed away on March 11, 2024, at the Roseburg VA Medical Center. Jerold was born Oct. 27, 1938, to Clyde and Agnes Fullerton and spent his early years here in the area graduating from local schools.
Beginning in the 1950’s he became involved in rodeo competitions. That love for animals carried with him for the rest of his life. After high school he attended Oregon State for his undergraduate and Washington State for his DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). While in college he worked as a police officer and spent more than 40 years as a volunteer with the sheriff’s office. After graduating he joined the Air Force where he held the rank of Captain and served his country from 1964 to 1968. He was proud to be a patriot and with that enjoyed all that was American including country music.
Upon discharge Jerold returned to Roseburg where he opened Fullerton Veterinary Clinic, which was a local fixture for over three decades caring for family pets. Dr. Fullerton cared for many of the livestock on ranches and worked with Schricker’s Livestock Auction as an onsite veterinarian. As a rural veterinary clinic, he was always on call and could often be found tending to sick animals in the middle of the night or weekends. He was also involved with, and regularly tended to, animals from the Wildlife Safari.
While tending to animals was his vocation, being a dad and husband was his passion. He enjoyed watching his kids play sports and cheering his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He also loved to fish at both Lemola and Diamond Lakes, if he wasn’t at home or the office, he most likely would be on the lake.
He will be remembered for many things, but his legacy will be his family that he cared for. Jerold was married to Georgia Parker Fullerton who predeceased him, as did his parents. He is survived by Jerold B. Fullerton, Jr., Lacy J. Pinard, Betty Stevens and Katherine R. Fullerton as well as Holly Holcomb and James Pope.
He will be laid to rest at Roseburg National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, with military honors. Arrangements are in the care of Umpqua Valley Funeral Directors, Roseburg, 541-537-9300.
