Sacramento, California – Dan was born in San Diego the son of James and Joy Lawer. He is survived by his brother James, sister Cathy, daughter Cyndi, stepson Byron, stepdaughter Lara, granddaughters Emma and Ava, nephew Ryan and wife Betty.
Dan graduated from Washington State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. Then served over six years in U.S. Air Force Veterinary Corp earning a Bronze Star. Returning, Dan opened and operated the Elkhorn Plaza Veterinary Clinic for over 40 years. He was President of the Sacramento Valley Veterinary Medical Association and served on the AKC Tracking Advisory Committee. Dan was the Tracking Program Coordinator for the Sacramento Dog Training Club, an approved AKC Tracking Judge and a breeder/exhibiter of Norwegian Elkhounds. He worked with Lend-A-Heart Pet Therapy and the Sacramento SPCA Love-On-Loan program. Dan helped at Sun River Church as a facilitator for grief share and provided an Eskaton Memory Care Unit with Sunday morning Services. Health issues forced Dan to close his Clinic, a business he truly loved. He now is in glory with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sun River Church, 11223 Trinity River Drive, Rancho Cordova on March 11, 2023, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the SSPCA Love-On-Loan or the Norwegian Elkhound Association of American Research fund.
