Miller, Dr. John H., of Balboa Island, CA, 89, passed away peacefully on January 27th at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA. Dr. Miller was dearly loved by his family, friends, many furry clients and their owners.
John Harvey Miller was born on in Covina, CA to Gerial and Atha Miller in the house next to the Covina Animal Hospital. He graduated from Covina Union High School in 1939, attended UCLA for pre Veterinary studies, and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 1944 while serving in the U.S. Army Veterinary Training Corps. Honorably discharged from the Army in 1944, John returned to practice veterinary medicine with his father at Covina Animal Hospital in Covina, CA. John later inherited the practice and continued to serve the community as a veterinarian for a total of forty-six years. He was also an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
John married his wife Victoria in 1958. They lived in together in Covina and later West Covina for twenty-seven years. Throughout their marriage John and his wife enjoyed many interests including music, art, and traveling the world. Upon retiring, they moved to Balboa Island, CA where they resided for the last seventeen years.
John Miller is survived by his wife, Victoria and three daughters, Debbie Zehnder, Sally Miller and Paula Miller. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Nate Miller, Andrew Miller, Mikaela Favill, Matt Zehnder; and one great grandchild, Nora Miller.
Dr. John H. Miller was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Oakdale Cemetery in Glendora, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, or the local Humane Society in his honor.
