Second-year veterinary student Brooke Balic is an international student from Kelowna, BC, who has embraced her journey at WSU\u2019s College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing her undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia\u2014Okanagan, Brooke was drawn to WSU for its strong community and extensive hands-on experiences in veterinary medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her interests lie in small animal emergency medicine, dentistry, and exotic\/wildlife medicine. What stands out to Brooke about WSU is the unwavering support from faculty and the DVM wellness center, which fosters a nurturing environment for students. \u201cYour professors are there for you every step of the way,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brooke advises incoming students from larger cities to build bonds with their classmates and explore the diverse activities Pullman has to offer. She found adjusting to life in vet school is easier than expected, quickly immersing herself in her studies and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among her most meaningful experiences in the program so far are hands-on learning opportunities, such as the euthanasia simulation lab and practical workshops through various clubs. Brooke’s favorite aspect of WSU is the strong sense of belonging, making her confident in her future as a veterinarian. When not studying, celebrating her accomplishments with a workout at WSU student recreation center never gets old.<\/p>\n\n\n
