If you have a passion for spay\/neuter, rescue, and community outreach, Shelter Medicine is the club for you! From lunch lectures covering diseases such as infectious disease control, surgical techniques, and high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter (HQHVSN) to community events where we practice hands-on skills such as performing surgery and physical exams, implanting microchips, prepping\/monitoring and recovering patients from anesthesia \u2013 Shelter Med really has it all! <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

We are so fortunate to have so many clinics near and far willing to help teach us valuable surgical skills and are one of the only opportunities you get to practice live tissue handling before fourth year. Spays and neuters are among the most common procedures performed in practice and the Shelter Medicine Club is dedicated to participating in several of these surgery clinics all throughout the year. Another bonus? These clinics are designed to tackle pet overpopulation, give back to our community, and increase access to medical care to those who may otherwise go without.  <\/p>\nAshley Phelps, DVM Student<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
