Hi, I’m Alyssa!
I’m a DVM student from Canada and completed my undergraduate studies at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. I started the DVM program on the Pullman campus as a member of the class of 2029. This is my first year as an ambassador.
I’d love to talk to you about being an international student and navigating vet school with pets.

I chose to attend veterinary school at WSU because of the simulation based education program. Getting to start learning our surgical skills in our first semester of vet school, having models to learn and practice our physical exam skills, be able to practice our communication skills with clients, learn about anesthesia in a low stress environment such as placing an IV catheter and how to set up and monitor anesthesia during surgery prior to having to do all of these things on a live animal patient is what really drew me into the WSU vet program.
My best advice for incoming students is to just be yourself and not to compare yourself to others! You’ll find your friends as long as you just be yourself and remember that we all made it here!
I wish I knew that not all of my study methods would be the best for all my classes and I was going to have to adapt or find new study methods for different classes and even different topics.
