Mikayla McClintock
Hi, I’m Mikayla!
I’m a DVM student from Montana and completed my undergraduate studies here at Washington State University. I started the DVM program on the Montana campus as a member of the class of 2028. This is my first year as an ambassador.
I’d love to talk to you about day to day life as a vet student and my experiences on the Bozeman campus!
Areas of interest
- Anatomical pathology
- Mixed animal general practice
Club involvement
Extracurricular activities
- Clinical Skills Lab Peer Instructor
- Clinical shadowing
I chose the WSU Regional Program because I was able to shadow at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for three semesters in undergrad, and I loved the community. The students all supported one another and the veterinarians were amazing at explaining everything and even allowed me to get some hands on experience.
Try not to be too stressed at the start of the semester. You aren’t supposed to know everything right of the bat, and everyone is starting with different areas of expertise. You will be taught everything you need to know, so don’t worry too much if it seems like other people already know things that you don’t.
In Bozeman, there is an abundance of hands on experience since the class is so small. We were able to do our own dissections for anatomy, had many cadavers for Principles of Surgery practice, and were able to perform necropsies for pathology. We also had several live cows and horses for palpation practice for anatomy.
