Ambassador Spotlight: Carrie Vinci

DVM Student Carrie Vinci

Are you considering WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine? Our student ambassadors are available to provide insight into our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Passionate about small animal medicine and exotics, first-year veterinary student Carrie Vinci was drawn to WSU for its strong emphasis on hands-on learning.

“In your first semester of first year you have hands-on classes such as animal handling courses and principles of surgery, which begin to provide a basis for your clinical skills. In addition, WSU has an Open Clinical Skills Lab and recently invested in a brand-new clinical skills and simulation lab for students,” she said.

Carrie, who completed her undergraduate studies at the College of Idaho, said WSU’s prioritization of student success was another program selling point, noting WSU offers a range of wellness resources, including licensed counselors and workshops integrated into the curriculum. In addition, it helps that faculty also support the students where they can.

“If you ever find yourself struggling in a course, professors will often find a way to work with you on specific content or to help you develop new strategies to be successful,” she said.

While the program has much to offer, it’s easily her peers she loves most.

“WSU does an amazing job of curating a student body of exceptional students and compassionate colleagues. I can’t imagine going through the program without the support and motivation from my peers,” Carrie said.
