Veterinary Law and Ethics Club
The WSU Veterinary Law and Ethics club has something for everyone! No matter what your species interest or plans after graduation are, we guarantee there will be legal and ethical dilemmas in your future, and we’re here to help you navigate them! Our activities are mostly lunch lectures, with the opportunity to dive deep into how we feel about hot topics in vet med. We also stay abreast of vet med related public policy; we have had discussions about the mid-level practitioner propositions popping up throughout the country, and we have had a zoom lecture from a DVM who now works for the AVMA to lobby for veterinarian-supported legislature in Washington, D.C.

Previous lecture topics
- Ethics and impacts of horse racing
- Exploring lab animal medicine as a career field (bonus, we got to tour the WSU grizzly bear facility thanks to our very own bear center manager!)
- Legal restrictions around prescribing medications to food animals
- Special considerations for small animal surgical practices like pregnant spays, tail docking, dewclaw removal, and cat declawing
Even if none of these topics interest you, we guarantee you’re curious about tips for negotiating employment contracts when you graduate, and we always have at least one contract negotiation lecture per year to make sure you’re prepared to advocate for yourself as a new grad joining the work force!
