Ambassador Spotlight: Kaitlin Mirkin

Are you considering WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine? Our student ambassadors are available to provide insight into our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.
Driven by her passion for large animal medicine, Kaitlin Mirkin’s journey at WSU has been bolstered by her active participation in the wide variety of clubs and extracurricular activities.
What set WSU apart though was the sense of community and the relationships she’s built along the way.
“Even before I became a student at WSU, it felt like home,” Kaitlin said. “At every recruitment event I attended the environment was supportive, uplifting, and conducive with a positive learning environment. Even on tough days, I am genuinely so excited and grateful to have the opportunity to learn from faculty and students in this program. It’s so easy to love what you do when you are immersed in an environment where people want you to succeed and are excited to share their knowledge with you.”
Kaitlin was initially apprehensive about her transition to veterinary school, particularly due to her background on a dairy farm and her lack of clinical experience and time using advanced medical equipment. However, WSU quickly dispelled her fears.
“From my first week using specimens in the anatomy lab and practicing skills in Principles of Surgery, I quickly learned that WSU could provide hands-on opportunities for anything and everything that I wanted to practice,” she said.
