Ambassador Spotlight: Erick Vergara Barrios

DVM Student Erick Vergara Barrios

Are you considering WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine? Our student ambassadors are available to provide insight into our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Erick Vergara Barrios was drawn to WSU’s program by its exceptional attention to detail in client communication, particularly showcased through the college’s clinical communication program and its Diagnostic Challenges.

Erick also appreciates WSU’s access to surgical models, which provide invaluable practice opportunities before working with live animals.

Recently completing his undergraduate studies at Washington State University, Erick is familiar with the WSU Pullman campus. He is particularly interested in small and large animal medicine and surgery, emergency and critical care, and equine medicine.

Erick said WSU’s veterinary program is uniquely equipped to prepare students for their careers.

“Elective courses like colic team have allowed me to display my curiosity within an advanced curriculum. I have been able to immerse myself in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and learn from those who are more advanced around me, which provide me with a realistic insight of what the profession is like after graduation,” he said.

Erick’s desire to serve as a college ambassador stems from his passion for supporting others and his previous ambassador role as an undergraduate.

“Throughout my undergrad career, I spent a lot of my time helping other students like me. Whether that be studying, helping them enhance their leadership skills, or informing them about college and student life,” he said.
