Ambassador Spotlight: Alex Flores

DVM Student Alex Flores

Are you considering WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine? Our student ambassadors are available to provide insight into our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Alex Flores chose Washington State University for its exceptional hands-on opportunities in veterinary medicine. His interests span research, lab animal medicine, and both large and small animals.

WSU’s Summer Veterinary Research Fellowship was a highlight of Alex’s WSU experience.

By participating, Alex worked closely with a faculty mentor on a research project for six weeks, complete with funding and a stipend for his efforts.

“You and whoever you choose as your mentor get to write a proposal, and then if it gets the green light, your experiment will be funded, and you will get all summer to work on your project,” he said, noting presenting his research results at the college’s Research Symposium added a valuable professional experience to his academic journey.

Beyond research, Alex said he enjoys the supportive community within the veterinary program.

“The community of WSU is what really makes this program special,” Alex said. “I knew I would be given excellent academic services when I signed my letter of admission. I did not know I would have so many opportunities to connect with my classmates and form so many great friendships.”

Alex is married in veterinary school and willing to share advice on how to maintain a work-life balance.
